It's a step in the right direction and backed by a driving license, it should be good enough for 'almost' all identification purposes.

On the website link someone's comment is about needing to replace their certificate. Do the green A4 documents have a "sell by" date then. I can't find one on mine.

I think the answer is yes and no! If it is your first then I think you renew it and then never again, if you previously held a card then probably your green form is now permanent. ie Once you have been a resident for five years the next renewal becomes permanent.
